The Telegraph Quartet

August 06, 2019 • 7:30pm

By popular demand and for an unprecedented third consecutive summer, SMfG will present The Telegraph Quartet from the Bay Area. The quartet – the 2016 winner of one of classical music’s most prized awards, the Naumberg Chamber Music Award – has developed a devoted audience in Greensboro for its superb performances. Not to be missed!

PROGRAM:

Haydn: String Quartet No. 67 in F Major, Op. 77, No. 2

Britten: Three Divertimenti

INTERMISSION

Beethoven: String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131

Described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “powerfully adept…with a combination of brilliance and subtlety” and as an “incredibly valuable addition to the cultural landscape,” the Telegraph Quartet is committed to bringing chamber music “off the stage and into the audience.” And the quartet succeeds remarkably in doing that.

Telegraph Quartet violinist Joseph Maile has commented: “Chamber music — and the string quartet in particular — offers a unique quality for audiences to wrap their mind around… To me, a string quartet is an intimate experience — a personal experience. It’s something really important for people to experience – not just what it sounds like, but how it looks — what’s the drama of our relationship with each other.”

The Telegraph Quartet performed outstanding concerts that delighted SMfG’s audience the past two summers and many of our audience members urged us to invite them to return yet again this summer. We very much appreciate the Quartet’s doing so.
